Due to unprecedented weather conditions affecting Herefordshire, the local CCG has taken the decision in consultation with Primecare, the out of hours GP provider in Herefordshire, to concentrate all out of hours GP appointments to a central location in Hereford.
Simon Hairsnape, Accountable Officer for Herefordshire CCG said: “In the interests of patient and staff safety this weekend, we want to ensure that we offer a resilient local service out of hours. This is a pragmatic solution to unprecedented weather conditions.”
Any patient calling out of hours services in Herefordshire will continue to be automatically redirected to NHS 111 over the weekend. If advised to attend a GP appointment, patients will be directed to attend the service in Hereford. In the event that a patient is unable to travel to Hereford, a clinical advice service continues to operate alongside home visits.
Patients and public are urged to think carefully about whether they need urgent or emergency care and seek the most appropriate service:
- NHS 111 service offers advice and information over the phone
- Pharmacies offer advice and information and treatment for minor ailments such cuts, scratches, as well as selling cold and flu remedies over the counter
- Minor Injury Units (MIUs) continue to offer a service from community hospitals across the county providing treatment for minor ailments and injuries
- A&E / 999 is for emergency or life threatening illness or injuries
Remember to stay well this Winter
